Description: Founded in 1884, Philadelphia University is a student-centered institution that prepares graduates for successful careers in an evolving global marketplace. They offer a Masters program in Midwifery, and Disaster Medicine and Management.

Accredidation: Courses are offered in four 12-week semesters per year. Start dates are in August, November, February, and May.


Credit Options: Transfer credits are accepted

Platform: Distance-learning format using the BlackBoard® course-management system with a variety of teaching modalities including PowerPoint, asynchronous discussion boards, chat rooms, reading assignments, research papers, online journals and testing.

Geographies: No restrictions

On Campus Requirements: Disaster Medicine requires a one-week summer, intensive, on-campus experience that includes role-playing seminars, disaster drills and a table-top exercise.

  • Tech Requirements  Hardware and software requirements: Computer with the Windows operating system (Windows 2000, Windows XP or above) with audio (sound card), Internet with high-speed connection, Microsoft Office software (Word and PowerPoint), and a Microphone
  • Admin Requirements  Admission to the Master of Science program will be based on several criteria: undergraduate GPA; relevant work experience; two letters of reference; a personal essay; and whether or not the applicant has completed the required prerequisites (see below). No standardized test (GRE, GMAT, MAT) is required.
  • Costs  Tuition is $746 per credit for the Disaster Medicine and Management program and $698 per credit for the Midwifery program. The estimated cost for books and supplies per course is $125.
  • Scholarships  PU offers many scholarships, some awarded before you start as a freshman and others available to current students based on success after their first year
  • Loans  Loans are available to students enrolled for at least five credit hours per semester. You may borrow up to $18,500 per academic year. The total amount outstanding that you may borrow for is $65,500
