Description: UIC’s health informatics program was the first in the country to focus on the social and organizational issues affecting information technology in health care. We know it takes more than technical training for today's health care information professionals to be successful. Blending a technical foundation with coursework covering current clinical trends, government regulations, and health care-specific best management practices, UIC's curriculum equips students with the analytical and managerial expertise sought after in this dynamic field.

Credit Options: Students may transfer credits from an accredited institution. Transfer Credit is considered only for courses in which the student received a grade of A or B

Sound Card: SoundBlaster 32-bit compatible. Video Card: SVGA 1024x768 resolution. OS XP, Vista. An active antivirus program and an office suite such as Microsoft Office. An ISP is recommended for access from outside the (312) area code. The student must secure an active UIC NetID and valid password upon initial registration. Mac G4 or G5 running OS 10 (or higher).
  • Admin Requirements  The admissions committee is seeking self-motivated, mature individuals who meet the following requirements: At least two years of experience outside the academic setting in the health care or information technology fields. Strong written and oral communication skills. Exceptional people skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. The following are required for admission to the MS in health informatics program: Baccalaureate degree, no restrictions. Minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) for the final 60 semester (90 quarter) hours of undergraduate study and for all cumulative graduate work previously taken.
  • Costs  The health informatics certificate programs and the MS in HI program will each have an e-tuition of $635 per credit hour.
  • Scholarships  Scholarships can be awarded on many different requirements
  • Loans  Loans may be available. Applicants may apply by completing the Federal Application for Free Financial Aid (FAFSA).
